The San Polo winery and vineyards are located about 425 meters above sea level in the rolling hillsides of Tuscany’s Montalcino. It is there that Marilisa Allegrini and her daughters have constructed a winery with thoughtful architecture focused on efficiency, gentle handling of the grapes, and sustainability.

The vineyards at San Polo are farmed organically and have been deliberately separated into single parcels with all of the harvesting being done by hand.

Their Rubio bottling comes from the vineyard of the same name and is made from 100% Sangiovese farmed from 20 to 24 year old vines.

It may not be labeled Rosso di Montalcino, but for $14.39, it’s a damn good bottle of Tuscan Sangiovese.
