Bodegas Riojanas is a top tier Rioja producer that has been operating for more than 100 years. So when this rather enticing offer for Gran Reserva Rioja at a better than average price was presented to me I jumped right on it.

The Vina Albina Gran Reserva is made with a classic Rioja blending style of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo, 5% Graciano, with the Tempranillo coming from the winery’s highest altitude vineyards in Rioja Alta between 550 and 700 meters of elevation. The Tempranillo and Mazuelo come from 35+ year old vines while the Graciano comes from 25+ year old vines.

The wine sees at least five years of aging at the winery before release, and the result is a wine with very well integrated tannins and a long, complex life ahead of it. Enjoy it now or in a decade.
