Items of Note:

This article by Megan Krigbaum, in Punch, leads us down her path of attempts to discover what basic expenses are figured into the price of a single bottle of wine.  She was inspired by that $3.50 bargain wine her mom was so excited to bring home.  It just doesn’t quite add up!

How Do You Make a Wine That Costs $3.50?

Here’s a quick article by Mike Dunne of the Sacramento Bee, where he talks about two of our favorite California winemakers, Anne and Michael Dashe.

Read this article by Simon Woolf, Decanter, regarding sulfites in wines.  See some of the pros and cons- flavors, safety, allergies.  A little known fact- the vast majority of wines have very little sulfites!

Friday, September 8, 7-9pm

Save the Date!  Details to follow!

Boordy Vineyards is the first commercial winery established in Maryland, back in 1945 by the Wagners, in Baltimore County.  Their mission was to make good table wines.  In 1965, the Long Green Farm, owned for generations by the DeFord Family, planted grapes on a portion of their property in northeastern Baltimore County.  These grapes were used to make the Boordy wine.  In 1980, the DeFord Family purchased the Boordy Winery, and moved operations to their 19th century stone barn.

Through the years, Rob Deford received his degree in Enology from UC Davis, developed and led production to more than 97,000 gallons, and cultivates more than 40 acres of wine grapes.  Farming, wine production and livestock operations livestock co-exist with its rolling hills, valleys and fishing streams through a policy of environmental sustainability.  Boordy Wines are recognized for their quality and value!  Join us as Rob takes us through a sampling of wines from The Landmark Series, The Icon Series, and the Sweetland Series!
